Home Movie and Videotape Questions
How long can my video be?
We use 4.7GB DVD+R media, which can hold up to eight hours of video. As the length of video placed on the disc increases, the quality goes down. Similarly, the more video you pack onto a video tape, the lower the quality, so the DVD will look no worse (and probably a bit better) than the source tape, as we will use the maximum bitrate that still allows your tape to fit on one DVD. We can place two or more videos onto a single DVD for the $10/tape price. More extensive editing of tapes is available at a slightly higher rate.
Will my disc work in my DVD player?
Can you transfer my commercial tapes to DVD?
In some cases, yes, provided you are the legal owner of the tape. Owners of copyrighted material are normally allowed to make one digital copy. Please see the Terms of Service page for more info. Tapes which employ the Macrovision copy-protection scheme cannot legally be transferred according to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998. Such tapes will be returned and you will not be charged for these tapes.
